When teams win state championships, the honors usually follow. Strasburg-Franklin’s Division VII state title-winning team is proof of that. The Tigers, though, were already collecting recognition before they were the last team standing.

Leading the way for the Tigers is senior guard Sofia Secrest, named first-team All-Ohio in Division VII, who was joined by three teammates honored at the state level, one of 16 Tuscarawas County girls to be named an All-Ohioan at some level in Divisions IV-VII.

Secrest averaged 14.6 points this year. The 5-foot-5 guard was a key player in a defense that stifled opponents throughout the postseason.

She was joined by classmate Ally Miller, a 6-1 post player who averaged 12.1 points and was named third-team All-Ohio; and senior guard Olivia Spidell, a 7-point scorer, and 5-10 post player Lydia Thomas, a 10.1-point scorer, each of whom received an All-Ohio special mention.

Also receiving Division VII honors was a pair of Tuscarawas Centra Catholic standouts. Nora Jackson, a 5-6 senior guard who averaged 14 points, received a special mention, while 5-10 sophomore post Mya Olson received an honorable mention.

Earning a third-team selection in Division V were Claymont senior Ava Edwards and Tuscarawas Valley junior Elli Wallick. Edwards, 5-foot-3 senior who averaged 20.3 points this year, became the Mustangs’ fifth 1,000 career point-scorer along the way. Wallick led Tusky Valley with 12.7 points per game.
