Dover swims past Massillon; New Philadelphia falls to Edison

Dover’s boys and girls teams swept Massillon in dual meets Jan. 9. The Tornado boys won 77-46 while the girls rolled 91-34.
Winning individual events for the girls team were Teagan Hill (200-yard freestyle), Sara Cotlet(200 individual medley), Abigail Lane (50 free, 100 back), Ruth Cotlet (100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke) and Teagan Hill (500 free).
Also winning were the 200 medley relay team of Josie Blacka, Lilly McCoury, Megan Flores-Martinez and Jennifer Sanchez Brito, the 200 free relay team of Lane, Hill, Sara Cotlet and Ruth Cotlet; and the 400 free relay team of Sara Cotlet, Ruth Cotlet, Hill and Lane.
For the boys, individual winners were Tanis Handerhan (200 free, 100 free), Thomas Perkowski (100 fly, 100 breaststroke), Evan Dorenkott (500 free) and Danny Peltz (100 back),
The boys relay teams of Peltz, Dorenkott, Kelvin Flores-Martinez and Elmer Ortiz-Ortiz in the 200 medley; Handerhan, Peltz, Dorenkott and Perkowski in the 200 free relay; and Ortiz-Ortiz, Flores-Martinez, Handerhan and Perkowski in the 400 free relay.

In a home dual meet with Richmond Edison, New Philadelphia’s swim teams came up on the short end, falling 99-32 in the girls meet and 67-57 in the boys side.
For the boys, winners were Jacob Haren (200 individual medley) and Teagan Zimmerman (100 breaststroke), the 200 medley relay team of Haren, Zimmerman, Ben Haren and Carter Jacksonand the 200 free relay team of Kasen Jones, Teagan Zimmerman, Jacob Haren and Ben Haren.
Winning events for the girls were Makenna Cole (200 freestyle, 500 free), Bailey Tidrick (50 free) and Adalia VanArsdelen (100 backstroke),
In the Turn It Gold Winter Invitational Jan. 3 at Ohio University, New Philadelphia’s boys totaled three points to finish 19th among 20 scoring teams in a meet full of Division I schools and Central Ohio powers. The Quaker girls did not score.
Teagan Zimmerman finished eight in the 50-yard breaststroke, and 12th in the 100 breaststroke to finish as the Quakers’ top performer on the boys side. Ben Haren placed 18th in the 100 freestyle
Cole finished 14th in the 50 backstroke and 26th in the 200 individual medley and was the Quakers’ top performer at the meet for the girls team. More than 60 swimmers were in each of Cole’s events.
Dover and New Philadelphia each will compete this weekend in the Ohio Cardinal Conference meet, to be held Saturday, January 17 at Wooster High School. Postseason competition begins Feb. 14 with the Canton Sectional at Branin Natatorium in Canton.
