Dover Library to showcase final art exhibit by Joseph Merle Clantz
Local artist shares lifetime collection of oil paintings in October gallery honoring his faith, family and love of nature
The Dover Public Library will honor the life and work of local artist Joseph Merle Clantz throughout October in the Community Room Art Gallery. This will be his final public showing, where he will display a collection of oil paintings for the community to enjoy.
Clantz was born in 1938 and graduated from Dennison High School and Ohio University. He has loved drawing since childhood and studied under Dr. Charles Deetz of the Zanesville Art Institute. His wife of 61 years, Kathleen, once gave him an oil paint set that inspired his lifelong work. His paintings often capture the beauty of nature and moments from times gone by.
Clantz is presenting his final gallery showing at the Dover Library. When asked what has sustained him over the years, he said, “The Lord Jesus found me when I was 33 years old and believe me I needed him. He has been good to us.”
The Dover Public Library is located at 525 N. Walnut St. For more information, call 330-343-6123 or visit doverlibrary.org.
