The Bethlehem Township Historical Society held its first meeting of 2026 March 11. The society had been closed since the middle of November 2025 for the holidays and vacations.
The group is back to its Wednesday morning workdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m., which resumed Jan. 7. Officials said that when schools are closed because of weather, the society also is closed. Anyone wanting to make sure someone is there may call 330-879-5938.
The society’s annual garage sale will be held May 14-16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Anyone wishing to donate items may drop them off on Wednesdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m. If items need to be picked up, call the same number. The society does not accept clothing.
Officials also thanked everyone who has been donating aluminum cans in the barrels outside the education building behind the Mathews Museum. Cat food containers cannot be accepted. Money from the cans helps pay utilities.
President Tom Diehl recognized two retiring officers, Marilyn Adams for 14 years as treasurer and Janie Talbott for past service as secretary. A thank-you card signed by those in attendance, along with a small token of appreciation, was given to both.
The society also reported building needs. Officials said two new furnaces and two roofs are needed for the three buildings. The wood fence, now 30 years old, also needs repair or replacement with vinyl fencing. Donations or suggestions would be appreciated. The society said it is working on a grant to help with the costs.
The next monthly meeting will be held at 10 a.m. April 8 in the education building.
