The Arts Center of Newcomerstown will host its annual open house Friday, Oct. 24, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the center. The evening will feature the presentation of the eighth annual Manuel Yingling Music Award to local musician Steve Dulaney.
The award honors the legacy of Manuel Yingling, a Newcomerstown-born trombonist and composer of the 19th century. Since 2018, it has recognized superior musicianship and a dedication to the arts.

Dulaney’s musical journey began at home, learning from his grandfather and mother before moving on to drums, guitar and voice. He found early success with bands such as Marquis and Sneeky Peek, the latter of which opened for national acts including Eddie Money, .38 Special and Great White. Today he performs as lead singer and guitarist with The Moonlyterz, as a solo acoustic artist and with his church’s contemporary ensemble.
“Music has always been a part of my life,” Dulaney said. “From my family to my teachers to the bands I’ve played with, I’ve been blessed to learn and share music with others. Receiving this award in my hometown is truly an honor.”
In addition to Delaney’s award, honorary Yingling Awards will be given to Ohio Rep. Jodi Salvo and to Michael and Karmin Pace of Georgia for their support of ARTSNCT and the Tuscarawas County arts community.
The open house will also showcase the annual Pizza Box Art Contest exhibit, which this year drew more than 400 entries from students at Newcomerstown High School, Middle School and West Elementary. Winners will be announced later in the month, with prizes including cash awards and pizza parties sponsored by local pizzerias.
The event is free and open to the public. Food and refreshments will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m.
“ARTSNCT is dedicated to celebrating Newcomerstown’s artistic heritage and creating opportunities for today’s artists,” said Michael Wise, executive director. “From honoring Manuel Yingling’s musical legacy to inspiring our young artists through the Pizza Box Art Contest, this event brings our mission full circle.”
