West Holmes girls cross country takes runner-up spot at OCC Championships

Knights earn multiple All-OCC honors; football, soccer, and volleyball teams wrap up busy week of competition.

Earning All-OCC first-team honors were Iriel Mena, who finished third in 18:47, and Katherine Kaster, who finished seventh in 19:48. Earning second-team honors was Alexis Wagers, who finished 10th in 20:18. Earning honorable mention accolades was Sophie Arnold, who finished 22nd in a personal-best 21:43.

Football

Ashland improved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the OCC by rolling to a 40-7 win over West Holmes on Oct. 10.

Brayden Parsons finished 13-of-22 passing for 163 yards and a touchdown for the Knights (5-3, 3-2). Lynn Cline caught five passes for 75 yards and a score while Coi Beachy snagged six for 50. Brody Bowman led the rushing attack with 14 carries for 61 yards.

Braxton Blake paced WH’s defense with nine tackles. Cline and Beachy had eight tackles, Rhett Chaney had seven, and Oliver Fleming, Chris Williams and Evan Hoxworth had six.

Boys cross country

West Holmes finished sixth at the OCC Championships on Oct. 11.

Owen Neville earned All-OCC second-team honors with a 15th-place finish in a personal-record time of 16:55. Also scoring for the Knights were Owen Mallasch in 28th, Parker Garver in 33rd, Finn McClintock in 39th and Marshall Yoder in 40th.

Girls soccer

West Holmes pulled out a 3-2 win over Shelby in a nonconference clash on Oct. 9.

Charli Murphy led the Lady Knights with three goals. Becca Miller, Katherine Kaster and Bri Poventud all had an assist. Goalkeeper Landrie Croskey made six saves.

Boys soccer

West Holmes played Loudonville to a 1-1 draw in nonleague play on Oct. 9.

Jimmy Wengerd scored WH’s lone goal.

Volleyball

West Holmes’ season came to an end with a 25-4, 25-8, 25-11 loss to Meadowbrook in a Division IV sectional final on Oct. 14.

Mallory Marmet (six kills) and Camrie Wilson (five assists) paced WH.

Clear Fork picked up a 25-10, 25-16, 19-25, 26-24 nonleague win over West Holmes on Oct. 9.

Marmet (22 kills, nine blocks, eight digs), Mati Fair (15 assists), Lena Burgett (13 assists), Emmy Miller (eight aces), Harper Warner (six digs) and Vivian Arbaugh (seven blocks) led the Lady Knights.

Eighth grade football

West Holmes defeated Wooster 38-6 on Oct. 8.

Kaidence Thomas rushed for two touchdowns while Kiegen Aufrance rushed for a score. Easton Clark connected on a touchdown pass to Weston Rogers. Jacoby Rice returned an interception for a touchdown to lead the defense.

Seventh grade football

Wooster beat West Holmes 40-38 on Oct. 8.

Zaylin McVay rushed for five touchdowns and four two-point conversions to lead the Knights.
