West Holmes football earns nonleague win over Orrville

West Holmes' Brody Bowman (21) rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns and snagged four passes for 24 yards and a score in a 28-20 win over Orrville on Aug. 29.

West Holmes defeated Orrville 28-20 in nonleague football action on Aug. 29.

Knights quarterback Brayden Parsons completed 13-of-19 passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns. Reid Hoxworth led the receivers with three catches for 71 yards and a score. Brody Bowman rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries and snagged four balls for 24 yards and a score. Lynn Cline rushed for 67 yards and caught two passes.

Chris Williams led the defense with 15 tackles. Coi Beachy had 14, Oliver Fleming and Braxton Blake 12, and Cline 11.

Girls cross country

West Holmes finished second at the Smithie Invite on Sept. 2.

Iriel Mena finished second overall in a season-best time of 19:30 to lead the Lady Knights. Katherine Kaster finished fifth in 20:43, Alexis Wagers finished eighth in 22:14, Sophie Arnold finished 10th in a personal-best time of 22:57 and Chelsie Cooper finished 12th in 23:17.

West Holmes finished second in the large school race at the East Canton Invitational on Aug. 27.

Mena and Kaster finished second and third, respectively, to lead the Lady Knights while Wagers finished eighth.

Boys cross country

West Holmes finished fourth at the Smithie Invite on Sept. 2.

Owen Neville led WH with a second-place finish in 17:45. Owen Mallasch finished 13th in 18:59, Parker Garver 17th and Remy Beachy 18th.

West Holmes finished fourth in the large school race at the East Canton Invitational on Aug. 27.

Neville (sixth place) and Mallasch (16th) led the Knights.

Boys soccer

Wooster rolled to a 13-1 win over West Holmes in Ohio Cardinal Conference action on Sept. 2.

Jacob Galbraith scored off an assist from Garrett Obrst for the Knights’ lone goal. Goalie Jordan Gerber finished with 17 saves.

West Holmes played Union Local to a 1-1 draw in a nonconference clash on Aug. 30.

Oliver Hiller scored WH’s lone goal off an assist by Jimmy Wengerd.

West Holmes picked up a 3-0 nonleague win over Canton McKinley on Aug. 28.

Obrst led the Knights with a goal and an assist. Ryder Fox and Galbraith also scored while Hiller had an assist. Gerber recorded 15 saves.

Volleyball

Ashland cruised to a 25-5, 25-5, 25-22 win over West Holmes in an OCC clash on Sept. 2.

Harper Warner (eight digs) and Camrie Wilson (four aces) paced WH.

West Holmes pulled out a 25-10, 22-25, 24-26, 25-9, 16-14 win over Mansfield Senior in an OCC battle on Aug. 28.

Wilson (seven aces), Rorie Wilcox (five aces, nine digs), Mati Fair (five aces), Lena Burgett (34 assists) and Mallory Marmet (19 kills, 10 digs) led the Lady Knights.

Girls soccer

West Holmes fell 7-4 to Tusky Valley in a nonleague battle on Aug. 30.

Charli Murphy paced the Lady Knights with four goals. Goalie Landrie Croskey finished with seven saves in goal.

Lexington rolled to a 6-1 win over West Holmes in OCC action on Aug. 28.

Murphy scored WH’s lone goal. Croskey recorded 11 saves.
