Heartland Technical Education Center BOE approves personnel changes, $1,000 donation

The Heartland Technical Education Center Board of Education met Aug. 21 in the board room for a regular meeting.
The board did the following during the meeting:
—Approved the employment of Chad Lykins, HVAC/R instructor, on a certified one-year probationary contract for the 2025-26 contract year, effective Aug. 14.
—Approved the employment of Stacey Dorsey, tutor, on a certified one-year probationary contract for the 2025-26 contract year, effective Aug. 14.
—Approved the employment of the following part-time personnel with salary per the adult education secretarial salary schedule: Nina Spillman, adult education admissions and data secretary, on a one-year contract.
—Approved a supplemental contract for certified personnel Chad Lykins, HVAC/R, for four days.
—Approved the resignation of Jason Chio from the Heartland Technical Education Board of Education, effective Aug. 31.
—Approved the Tri-County ESC certified/classified sub list as presented.
—Approved the district’s updated certified/classified sub list as presented.
—Approved the employment of the following part-time personnel: Sarah Burkett, cafeteria worker-temporary, one-year limited contract, with a start date of Sept. 4.
—Accepted a donation from Riley Carpenter Memorial in memory of Candace Adkins in the amount of $1,000 to the animal vet science program to be used to purchase equipment and supplies.
—Approved/ratified the Memorandum of Understanding to fill the tutor position with a teacher for the 2025-26 school year in an effort to retain that teacher for a future Sophomore Academy program, expected to begin operating in the 2026-27 school year.
—Authorized the conveyance of certain school property to the Ohio Department of Transportation for right-of-way purposes and furthermore authorized the superintendent, board president and treasurer to negotiate and execute an agreement for the acquisition of additional property for right-of-way purposes
Other information
Reno Contipelli, Northeast regional manager of the Ohio School Board Association, presented a 20-year service award to Rick Ewing.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m.
