Falls prevention classes offered in Holmesville
Free program for older adults runs Fridays, March 27 to May 15, at Holmesville Church of Christ
Turning down opportunities to go out with family or friends because of concerns about falling or cutting back on favorite activities due to the risk of falling are common experiences for many older adults. A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls is designed to help address those concerns.
Fear of falling can be just as dangerous as falling itself. People who develop this fear often limit their activities, which can result in severe physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. Many older adults also experience increased isolation and depression when they limit their interactions with family and friends. A Matter of Balance can help people improve their quality of life and remain independent.
A Matter of Balance is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Participants learn to set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors and learn simple exercises to increase strength and balance.
The Falls Prevention Program of Holmes and Wayne, under the direction of the Holmes County General Health District, is offering A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls on Fridays, March 27 to May 15. Classes will be from 10 a.m. to noon at Holmesville Church of Christ, 204 W. Main St., Holmesville. There is no cost to this program. A workbook is provided, and refreshments are served.
There are only 12 spots available. Call Kerry MacQueen at 330-674-5035, ext. 251, to register or for more information.
