It was a good night for coach Grace Godich and her varsity volleyball team as the Lady Huskies climbed back into the winner’s circle Wednesday, Sept. 24, with a victory over visiting Edison.

The Huskies took the first two sets, dropped the third, then sealed the win in the fourth. Set scores were 25-22, 25-18, 18-25 and 25-22. With the win, the Huskies improved to 5-11.

“This was a great competitive game,” Godich said. “I am so proud of how hard the girls worked and how they stuck together through it all. Our motto this year was ‘One Team’ and you saw that last night. We were so excited to get that win.”

The match also served as the team’s Volley For A Cure fundraiser. “We had so many raffles, baked goods and concessions; a lot of it was donated by the community,” Godich said. “All of the earnings were donated to the Harrison County Cancer Crusaders to raise awareness for breast cancer. I am so thankful for the community and school for donating food, raffle baskets, dessert and their time for this cause.”

Stat leaders included Madison Taylor with nine aces, 11 points and 10 digs; Leah Grady with six aces, eight points, five kills, 18 assists and 11 digs; Hannah Grady with 14 kills, 12 assists and five digs; and Jaylin Ward with two aces, 14 points, five kills and seven digs.

In junior varsity play, Edison edged the Huskies in straight sets, 25-21 and 25-23.
