Harrison Central Select Choir and Band shine at Algonquin Mill Festival
Students deliver standout performances in Carrollton ahead of upcoming home band show and choir concert
The Harrison Central Select Choir took the stage at the Algonquin Mill Festival in Carrollton Friday, Oct. 10, to entertain festivalgoers. The Select Choir is an audition-based ensemble, with each member selected through a formal tryout process.
Under the direction of music director Angela Zalenski, the choir performed “The Les Miserables Medley.” Before the performance, Zalenski offered a brief description of the classic musical. Several students were featured as soloists, including Kara Bowman as Fantine, Kyra Drewett as Eponine, and Wyland Blake as Jean Valjean. Additional soloists included Zayden Losh, Sam Siragusano and Skylar McFarland.
The choir will perform in concert at the Harrison Central Auditorium Oct. 19.
Following the choir’s performance, the Harrison Central Band took the stage for a lively set. The band performed several songs, including “Drag Me Down” by One Direction, “I Will Wait” by Mumford & Sons, “Victorious” by Panic! at the Disco and “Locked Out of Heaven” by Bruno Mars, along with the Harrison Central Fight Song. The band is directed by Eric Zalenski with Field Commander Leah Rapp.
The band is preparing to host its own band show Oct. 18 — the first hosted by Harrison Central in several years. Participating bands will include Toronto, Martins Ferry, Shadyside, Barnesville, Brooke, Weir, Clay-Battelle, Valley, Bridgeport, Bellaire, Buckeye Local and Harrison Central.
The show will begin at 4 p.m. and will feature concessions, a 50/50 drawing and raffles. Dairy Jean will be on site, and the Harrison Central Cheerleaders will operate a second concession stand. Admission is $8 for adults, $1 for students and parking is $3.
