Harrison Central falls to Edison in season opener, 54–34
Huskies prepare for their upcoming matchup against Bellaire
Harrison Central’s Lady Huskies opened their 2025–26 basketball season Wednesday, Nov. 26, against visiting Edison Local. Harrison hung close in the first quarter and trailed just 9–7 after eight minutes.
The second quarter, however, proved costly. Edison erupted for 16 points while Harrison managed only three, giving the Wildcats a 25–10 lead at the break.
Edison added another 16 points in the third quarter to stretch its advantage to 23. Harrison scored eight in the period as turnovers and difficulty advancing the ball after Edison baskets continued to hurt the Huskies.
Both teams turned to their junior varsity benches in the fourth quarter. Edison scored 13 points in the frame while Harrison posted its best output of the night with 16. The Wildcats secured the win, 54–34.
Mik Pelegreen led Harrison with 10 points and six rebounds, including two three-pointers. Zoe Whipkey and Ava Conley each added five points, both connecting on a three-pointer. Kelci Powers scored four, while Emily Cope and Ella Smith finished with three apiece. Cope and E. Bailey each added a three-pointer. Bailey Smith and Shayla Nameth scored two points each.
Harrison’s junior varsity also fell, 53–19. Shayla Nameth and Ella Bailey combined for 12 points, six each. Bailey hit one three-pointer.
Edison’s Abigail Carpenter led all scorers with 23 points.
Harrison will return to practice looking to correct mistakes made in the opener, focusing on limiting turnovers and taking advantage of scoring opportunities. The Huskies will now prepare for their upcoming matchup against Bellaire.
