The Harrison Central boys soccer team crossed the river to Brooke High School Sept. 9. The Bruins had yet to win a game this season, with a record of 0-9.

The Huskies scored in the first half when Cooper Thompson hit the net assisted by Noah Thaxton. After the half, the Huskies dominated, scoring two more goals from Hunter Fulton and Triston Cole. Cole was also credited with an assist along with Ben Giffin. Player of the match was Hunter Fulton. Due to the Husky defense, Brady McAfee needed only three saves to shut out the Bruins.

The victory brought the season record to 5-4, with the Huskies winning four in a row. At that point, the Huskies’ stat leaders included Triston Cole with 21 steals and five goals, Noah Thaxton with four assists and Brady McAfee with 60 saves. The final score was Harrison Central 3, Brooke 0.

The Huskies then traveled to Belmont County Sept. 16 to square off against the Union Local Jets in a conference match. Cooper Thompson’s shot on goal was knocked into the net by the Jets’ goalkeeper in the first half, leaving the Huskies up one at the break. The Husky defense held off the Jets the entire game, finishing the match 1-0. Brady McAfee was credited with five saves, and Parker McAfee was named player of the match.

The Harrison Central boys had been on a roll — a winning roll that was. Headed to the river Thursday, Sept. 18, they hoped to continue that streak in their confrontation with the Weir Red Riders in a nonleague game. The scoreless first half gave the Huskies confidence; however, the Red Riders, coming into the match at 5-6, were determined to end the Huskies’ run. The second half held the key when the Riders managed to score, making the final 1-0 and ending the Huskies’ winning streak.

The Huskies’ record moved to 6-5 for the season. Hunter Fulton was awarded player of the match, and Brady McAfee had five saves.

Harrison Central was scheduled to face the Union Local Jets again in Morristown Sept. 22 in a Buckeye 8 game, hoping for a repeat victory.
