Harrison Central bowling teams advance to districts

Harrison Central’s boys bowling team opened the week by earning a berth in district play at the OHSAA sectional tournament Tuesday at St. Clair Lanes in St. Clairsville.

Competing among 24 teams, the Huskies placed fourth with a team score of 3,487. Freshman Owen Whitacre led Harrison Central with a 534 series, followed by sophomores Wyatt Durbin with 530 and Aaden Albaugh with 512. The top six teams advanced to district competition, set for Feb. 19 at Legacy Lanes in Coshocton.

Barnesville won the boys team title with 3,932, while Union Local placed second with 3,775. Keegan Martin of Barnesville was the top individual scorer with 660, and Union Local’s Leevi Kutcher was second, 22 pins back. River View placed third with 3,678, followed by Harrison Central in fourth. Conotton Valley took fifth with 3,473, and Indian Valley claimed the sixth and final district-qualifying spot with 3,407.

Buckeye Local placed 15th with 3,085, but sophomore Michael Kovalski qualified for district individual play with a 590 series. St. Clairsville junior Brenden Thoburn also advanced as an individual with 585.

The Lady Huskies also earned a district berth Wednesday, placing fourth at the sectional tournament at Boulevard Lanes in Dover. The girls competed against 20 teams.

River View won the girls title with 3,331. Carrollton was second with 2,983, and East Liverpool finished third with 2,770. Harrison Central placed fourth with 2,769, followed by Garaway with 2,760 and Minerva with 2,732 to round out the top six.

Junior Jaylie Byers led Harrison Central with a 520 series. Sophie Bland rolled 390, Mercedez Cooper had 387 and Tayla Thompson added 371.

Both Harrison Central teams will compete Feb. 19 at Legacy Lanes in Coshocton.
