The lack of any food service facility along state Route 250 between the Tappan Marina and the Tappan Dam will soon come to an end. On Dec. 1, an informal groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site of the Tappan Convenient Store to mark the start of construction on a new restaurant and bar. The new establishment will be part of the existing business located about a quarter mile north of the dam.
With the addition of the restaurant and bar, patrons traveling south on Route 250 toward Cadiz along the lake will be able not only to shop but also enjoy dining service at the new facility.
The restaurant is expected to seat between 45 and 50 patrons. Hours of operation and staffing plans will be announced at a later date. Construction is scheduled to conclude in early spring.
Lawton Brock and his wife, Kodi, own the Tappan Convenient Store and will also operate the new restaurant. The Brocks also own Brandywine Construction, the company building the addition.
Harrison County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Milo Baker attended the groundbreaking.
“It is exciting to continue to see businesses like Lakeside moving forward with growth to their convenient store,” Baker said. “Lawton and Kodi saw a vision a few years ago on Route 250, and that vision continues to expand.”
With the addition of the restaurant and bar, users of the boat launch across the road on Route 250 will gain convenient access to both boating necessities and sit-down dining provided by the Brocks.
