Deersville Community Theater to present Steel Magnolias Oct. 23–26
Beloved Southern classic features local cast led by Christine Sentz and Laura Peters under the direction of Holly Brindley
Deersville Community Theater will present "Steel Magnolias" Oct. 23-26, telling the story of a group of Southern women.
Directed by Holly Brindley and assisted by Cheryl Besozzi, the play is set in the fictional Chinquapin Parish in northwest Louisiana. The production takes place in the late 1980s inside the in-home beauty shop of Truvy Jones, portrayed by Christine Sentz, a longtime actor at the theater.
In the opening scene, Truvy hires Annelle Dupuy, a young stylist new to town, played by Carrie Rogers. The two prepare the hair of Shelby Eatenton, a young nurse marrying the love of her life, and Shelby’s mother M’Lynn Eatenton, a mental health counselor. Shelby is played by Jayda Rogers, a newcomer to the Deersville stage, and M’Lynn is played by veteran actor Laura Peters.
Clairee Belcher, the mayor’s widow, is portrayed by Grace Stetzik, who has appeared in numerous theater productions. She is followed by Ouiser Bourdreaux, the local grouch, portrayed by veteran actor Penny Clark, known for her comedic roles. The cast also includes the voice of Aaron Holmes as the Dee Jay.
Performances will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday. A meal, with a menu to be announced, will be served two hours before each performance for a donation.
