Boating education course planned at Tappan Lake Park
The course will include hands-on instruction with audio and visual materials and give boaters a chance to ask questions
An Ohio Boating Education Course will be offered for all ages Saturday, April 25, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Tappan Lake Park in Deersville.
If a person was born on or after Jan. 1, 1982, Ohio law requires completion of an approved boating safety education course to operate any powered watercraft greater than 10 horsepower. Participants can meet Ohio’s boater education requirement by attending the approved boating education course and passing a proficiency exam.
The course will include hands-on instruction with audio and visual materials and give boaters a chance to ask questions directly to an instructor. Topics include knowing your boat, operating safely, legal requirements and boating emergencies.
The course will be taught by OBEC-certified MWCD rangers and includes a minimum of eight hours of instruction and a written exam. Students must attend the entire course and pass a proficiency exam. Everyone younger than 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
The course is free but registration is required. Register online at mwcd.org/tickets.
For more information, contact MWCD at 1319 Third St. NW, New Philadelphia, or call 330-343-6647. More information also is available at mwcd.org.
