The Adena Village Council covered a range of issues at its Oct. 14 meeting, with discussion centered on the village park’s seasonal operations, the sale of a village truck and the annual Shop With a Cop program.

Mayor Brenda Roski said the park remains a point of pride but needs clear procedures as temperatures drop. “I feel bad about the park because there’s people using the park and this is a really good time of the year, but we never know when it’s going to get cold,” she told council.

Council members discussed when to shut down amenities such as restrooms between seasons. The consensus was that if the park is open, bathrooms should remain open, with a set closure date each year. Council member RJ Konkoleski suggested closing Nov. 1 and reopening April 1 to provide consistency.

Council also talked about installing metal toilets and sinks to deter vandalism. When Roski asked about the park fund balance, Council member Marla Bechtel said there is money available, and Roski said she wants upgrades in place for spring activities.

In other business, council revisited the plan to sell a village truck. Treasurer Denise Geanangel advised re-passing a resolution to advertise the sale. Council was told a sign may be placed on the truck once official advertising is underway. The resolution passed unanimously.

Police Chief Casey Robinson announced the 38th annual Shop With a Cop for the Christmas season, hosted by the Upper Ohio Valley Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 97. The program seeks sponsors to help children ages 3 to 12 and their families prepare for the holidays. A statement shared with council said the program “will provide a holiday blessing for a deserving child in the community and help promote public relations between law enforcement officers and the citizens of Jefferson and Harrison counties.”

Sponsorship levels include North Pole VIP ($2,000), Chief Elf ($1,000), Reindeer Games ($750), Mistletoe Magic ($500), Sleigh Ride ($300) and Holly Jolly ($150).
