Thirty-one bowlers traveled to New Athens Friday, Nov. 28, for week two of the head-to-head bowling match play competition. All competitors advanced to the next round after a two-game qualifying series. The event was held at JR Bowling Lanes.
Chris Emig secured the top qualifying spot with a 473 series, earning a first-round bye. In the semifinals, John Poling defeated Chase Barstow 217–205, and Glenn Cox defeated Jackson Romshak 198–159. Poling went on to win the final match, defeating Cox 213–175.
The Friday event was sponsored by Morning Wood Firewood of Belmont County.
“We definitely want to thank this week’s sponsor,” organizer Rayann Runevitch said. “Without our sponsors, our tournaments would be very difficult to put on. We also want to congratulate all of the bowlers and the top finishers. Finally, thanks to the observers who came out tonight. I know that the bowlers appreciate the support, and it does make the evening more enjoyable with all of the visiting that takes place.”
The payout structure for this evening netted $200 for the first-place winner, $100 for the second-place winner and $50 for both the third- and fourth-place finishers.
The competition will continue next Friday at 9 p.m., with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the finals in week 17. JR Lanes thanked all participants and looks forward to seeing them next week.
