Coshocton KOA unveils StoryWalk trail
Open house May 9 features guided walk and children's story reading
Coshocton KOA Holiday announced the release of its newest amenity, the StoryWalk, Saturday, May 9. The StoryWalk follows a nature trail through woodlands and features a station for each page of a children’s book.
The StoryWalk was created through a collaboration between the KOA and Joni Peddicord, who share the vision of promoting childhood literacy, curiosity and imagination.
"I believe reading is an adventure that never ends,” Peddicord said. “Something magical happens when you open the pages of a book. Reading, no matter where you are, is a wonderful way to introduce a child to a world of creativity and imagination as well as nature."
The KOA will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 9 to release the trail to the public and invite the public to see other amenities the campground has to offer. The open house will start at 10 a.m. with a guided walk through the trail and a story reading by Peddicord. The inaugural story is "What Does It Mean To Be an American" by Rana DiOrio and Elad Yoran to celebrate America250 this year.
Guests are welcome to explore the trail any time during the open house. During this time a glamping tent and two woodland cabins also will be open for guests to view. Amenities like the jump pad and playground are open at no cost to the public during the open house. If guests wish, they also may do free crafting or tie dying or ceramic painting for additional purchase.
The trail is open to the general public at no cost and starts at the Coshocton KOA Camp Store. Guests are asked to register at the camp store before proceeding to the trail. The trail is open any time the store is open from mid-April through October with a new book being featured each month.
Find out more by stopping by the KOA at 24688 County Road 10 in Coshocton. The StoryWalk Project was originally created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk is a registered service mark owned by Ferguson.
