Sandy Valley Local Schools announced that Brian Gamble has stepped down from his role as the district’s head football coach. He will continue serving the district as a teacher.
In his resignation letter, Gamble said the decision was made after “a lot of thought, prayer and conversation with my family.” After nine years leading the Sandy Valley Cardinals football program and 16 years coaching overall, he said it was the right time to focus on family.
During his tenure, Gamble led the Cardinals to two conference championships, six playoff appearances and four playoff victories. He said the program’s greatest successes were not on the scoreboard, but in the relationships built and the growth he witnessed in his athletes.
Gamble expressed gratitude for his players, assistant coaches, Cardinal families and the Sandy Valley community. “To every player who wore the red and gray, every assistant coach who gave their heart to this program, every parent who supported us and every community member who cheered us on — thank you. You’ve made these years something I’ll cherish forever.”
Matt Whitted, superintendent of Sandy Valley Local Schools, thanked Gamble for his leadership and impact.
“Coach Gamble has given so much to our students, our program and our community,” Whitted said. “We are grateful he will continue to be part of the Sandy Valley family as a teacher.”
