Spelling bee winners included Donna McNutt, an eighth grader who placed first in the Carrollton Exempted Village School bee, and Joan Stehulak, an eighth-grade student at St. Edward School.

Believed to be the oldest married couple in Carroll County were Homer G. and Blanche Buchanan of Route 2, Amsterdam, who observed their 73rd wedding anniversary April 5.

William LoPresti resigned as head basketball coach at Carrollton High School, a position he held for seven years.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Carrollton Future Homemakers of America’s parliamentary procedure team placed first in the state recognitional activities competition.

Kathy Aston, a senior at Carrollton High School, was crowned the 1976 CHS Music Prom queen by Kerry Hornberger, the previous year’s queen.

In a public opinion poll, 116 persons voted in favor of construction of a bandstand in Carrollton’s Public Square Park while 32 others opposed the project.

Warrior wrestling seniors and award winners at Carrollton High School included Brian Goddard, Scott White, Tom Castle, Finley Borland, Howard Holland and Jamie Reed, who were coached by Ralph Lloyd.

The Carl Lincke Heath building at 24 Second St. NE, Carrollton, was dedicated, having been donated to the county by the late Dr. Carl A. Lincke, a well-known Carrollton physician.

Christopher Adams was hired as the new director of the Carroll County Department of Human Services to succeed Elizabeth Boring, a 27-year department employee.

The Dellroy American Legion Post 475 celebrated its 67th anniversary since its founding.

Malvern’s baseball team stung Kidron twice in both games of a doubleheader, claiming a 16-1 victory in the first game and 14-0 in the second game.

Carrollton’s new clerk-treasurer, Judi Noble, was sworn in by Carroll County Probate and Juvenile Court Judge John H. Weyand.

Michael Leggett, the 11-year-old son of Vance and Sandy Leggett of Amsterdam Road, Scio, was the subject of a feature story, “Kids and Rabbits,” with his pet rabbit, Honey.

Ten letter winners returned to Malvern’s Hornet baseball team for the 1996 season.

Robert Ray of Carrollton was honored with a certificate by American Legion Post 428, presented by Carrollton Commander John McLoney, for 60 years of membership.

The staff of Dr. Stephen Dowell’s Carrollton dentistry office volunteered their services to provide a free dental day.

Members of Carrollton’s boys basketball team receiving special season awards included Ben Smith, Corey Leggett, Nick Castellucci, Zach Pridemore, Tyler Jones and Matt Spears.

The owners of Dorsey’s Market in Malvern announced plans in 2016 to close the business — one of Malvern’s oldest — and sell the property to be replaced by a Bellstore facility.

Malvern lost one of its longest-standing businesses — Dorsey’s Mart — owned by Cliff and Cindy Dorsey at the intersection of state Routes 43 and 183, who announced plans to sell the property to be replaced by a Bellstore facility.

Virgil Schlabach, a member of Carrollton’s Boy Scout Troop 141, received the Award of Merit for the Netawotwes District.

Carrollton’s 4x800-meter relay team put on a stunning performance at the Fairless girls track invitational when it defeated St. Thomas Aquinas, a Division III two-time state champion and state record holder. Carrollton’s team consisted of the Davis sisters, Kady and Allison, Maddie Dunlap and Grace Bartlow.
