Dellroy upholds ‘Biggest-Little’ homecoming tradition
The village of Dellroy upheld its tradition as being known as the “Biggest-Little” homecoming with a great turnout that featured a nearly 50-unit parade Friday evening, and some 80 well-shined vehicles entered in Saturday's car show.
The 76th homecoming parade opened with a prayer given by Rev. Jullie Kelly, pastor of Dellroy Nazarene Church, and the singing of the national anthem by Cara Chappell, a Dellroy resident.
Led by a color guard of Legion members, the parade included mobile units carrying the grand marshal Mike Ruby and Citizen Award winners Barb Toot and Diane Walker, who operate Harvest Hill Homestead.
The parade also featured numerous mobile, political and commercial units, along with antique cars, floats and several fire departments.
Parade winners Plaques were presented following the parade to the following category winners: — Best Appearing Pumper – East Sparta Fire Department — Best Appearing Tanker – Carrollton Village Fire Department — Best Appearing Brush/Rescue Unit – Carrollton Village Fire Department — Oldest Fire Truck Still in Service – Sherrodsville (1983 Duce ½ ton) — Farthest Distance Traveled Fire Department – Scio VFD — Best Appearing Marching Unit – American Legion Color Guard — Best Appearing Float – All Gave Some – Some Gave All — Best Appearing Antique Car or Tractor – Motorcross Portfolio — Judges’ Choice – Carroll Asphalt
Brian Granger, an EMT and East Sparta fire chief, was in charge of the parade and presented the winning plaques at the conclusion of the parade.
Serving as parade judges were New Philadelphia Fire Chief Zach Adams, Chris Brooks and Bill Wells, both members of the Carrollton Village Fire Department. Dave Lucas served as the parade announcer.
Some 80 vehicles were entered in Saturday’s car show. Winners were not available at press time this week.
