Commissioners discuss RTIP grant, annex updates

Carroll County Commissioners met Sept. 22

Commissioner Robert Wirkner shared updates from attending the Regional Transportation Improvement Plan meeting with the Board of Governors, noting that the county has applied for a grant to fund a study on the best route for a connector from Carrollton to Route 30. If the grant is awarded, ODOT and OMEGA will assist with coordinating the bidding process to prevent the board from becoming overwhelmed.

Commissioner Donald E. Leggett II reported on facility updates at the annex building, noting that doors for offices and rooms have been delivered and are expected to be installed soon, while internet and camera cabling is nearly complete. An upcoming contractor’s meeting is expected to provide additional updates.

Wirkner then asked whether the OSU Extension office is still on track to move into the annex building by the end of the year. Leggett reported that ceilings and walls are being prepped and painted, with heating and cooling work still pending. A cost estimate is expected soon, and while occupancy may be delayed depending on that progress, maintenance staff have already begun preparing the space.

In other business, commissioners:

— APPROVED a motion to send the Charitable Grant Agreement between the Carroll County Foundation and the Carroll County Golden Age Retreat to the prosecutor for his review for form and function. Wirkner said he is on the Carroll County Foundation board and if anything further comes from the prosecutor’s office, he will have to abstain.

— APPROVED a motion to send the contract/agreement with Thrasher for the CDBG CI Leesville Storm Sewer project to the prosecutor for his review for form and function.

— HEARD inspections were done at the Carroll County-Tolson Airport and the airport was recertified.

— PAID the bills of $76,517.04.
