Christ’s purpose at the center of Christmas message

Remembering the true meaning of Christmas

Christmas is a time many people look forward to. Some because they get time off from school or work, or because they are anticipating giving and receiving presents. Many are expecting to see loved ones they only see on rare occasions. All of these things are wonderful, and I admit that I look forward to them as well. We cannot, however, forget the reason we are celebrating.

God sent His Son to this earth for a purpose much greater than many of the things we anticipate in the coming days. In 1 John 4:14, we are told that “the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.” This mission is far more important and yet can be done in concert with all the other activities the season brings.

As we celebrate with family and friends, we need to be sure to speak about why Jesus came and why we celebrate. People need to hear that this holy child we worship was sent to do a job we could not do on our own. The Bible says that we have all sinned and fall short of being able to earn our way to heaven. It tells us that we have earned death, but that God gave us the gift of His own Son, so that if we put our faith and trust in what He has done for us, we can have our sins forgiven and live in heaven for eternity.

What a great time of year to tell others about the greatest gift ever given. Jesus gave Himself as a sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. Ask yourself: What better gift could I give this Christmas than making sure all those we meet know about Jesus and what He did for them and for us?

Have a great Christmas by enjoying all the wonderful things you are looking forward to and witnessing for Christ in the process. Praying you all have a very blessed Christmas.
