Christian compassion shines in Carroll County

Community generosity supports local ministries

The spirit of Christian compassion for the needy is alive and well in our Carrollton and Carroll County community. On behalf of the Carroll County Ministerial Association, which sponsors the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, and on behalf of the Carrollton Salvation Army unit, I want to express appreciation for the generous support of our community for these Christian charity organizations.

Approximately $100,000 has been provided through donations from the community to enable these ministries to reach out with a helping, caring hand to those in need. Those contributions have come from individuals, churches, businesses, clubs and school groups.

Special thanks are due to Betty Kaye Bakery and Sanders Market for regular donations of food throughout the year. Thanks also to the many volunteers who give their time to perform the many tasks necessary to operate the pantry.

Salvation Army kettles have been sponsored again this year by Discount Drug Mart, Dollar General Market and Sanders Market. Thanks to Carrollton High School teacher Belinda Mack and her student volunteers, along with all others who took turns ringing the bells for the Salvation Army. Special thanks go to our “number one” bell ringer, Kelly Mayes, who again has “rung in” more money than any other bell ringer this season.

We are all blessed to be part of a caring community, and there are several other great charitable organizations here besides the two I represent.

Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” yet we do receive great joy when we choose to share what God has blessed us with so that we may be a channel of blessing to someone else. Jesus also said that when we do good works, we let His light shine through us so that others see, and God is glorified.
