The annual spelling bee for students in grades five through eight at Carrollton Middle and High School will be held Wednesday, Jan. 21, beginning at noon in the Performing Arts Center.
Twenty-five students will compete for a chance to advance to the regional spelling bee scheduled for March 27 in Canton, according to Carrollton Middle School Principal Tim Albrecht.
Contestants are eighth-graders Addison Butler, Willow Clark, Alaunah Moody, Isabel Pesta, Addison Raach and Aubrie Raines; seventh-graders Andrew Bennett, Remmi Cunningham, Jacob Hill, Bentley Manbeck, Rett Nicholas and Haven O’Kelley; sixth-graders Vilisa Church, Isabella Morrow, Lizzie Nuske, Clark Robidoux, Owen Ruble and Jafar Zuniga Soriano; and fifth-graders Levi Beadnell, Leona Bell, Anna Heater, Blake McIntire, Cylus Roudebush, Logan Stone and Adelyn Worth.
Julie Roebuck, a seventh-grade English language arts teacher, will serve as pronouncer. Judges will be Superintendent David Davis and Special Services Coordinator Tricia Green.
Contestants will be eliminated upon misspelling a word. When the competition is reduced to the final two spellers, additional rules will be used to determine the winner.
Awards will be presented to the champion and runner-up.
