Orrville Exchange Club tours Long Military Museum in Wooster

Gregory Long showcases 6,000+ sq. ft. of Wayne County military history; tours available by appointment as museum expands youth outreach.

Gregory Long, center, gave Orrville Exchange Club members a tour of the Gregory Long Military Museum in Wooster on Sept. 11. The program was arranged by Kathy Smith, right. Past President Scott Gold, left, gave the welcome.

Gregory Long, owner of Long Military Museum at 334 E. South St. in Wooster, gave Orrville Exchange Club a tour Sept. 11 when members met for lunch from Mariola's Restaurant. The program was arranged by Kathy Smith, an Exchange Club member, who's also an assistant at the military museum. They were welcomed by Scott Gold, past president.

Long, who opened the military museum in 2017, said he went from a small space to over 6,000 square feet of military items, with the majority of them from Wayne County residents.

To schedule a tour, call Long at 330-201-4333. They provide tours for service clubs that feature an open house or schedule tours that last two hours. They often bring in veterans to tour the museum.

Long said he wants the youth to learn this history and will have eighth-graders from Wooster City Schools come for a tour.

In business Gold said District Exchange sent a retention award to Orrville Exchange.

The guest was Bill Sturgeon, husband of Sara Sturgeon.

A special event, the Buckeye Blueprint Blitz, will be held Oct. 6 from noon to 1 p.m. at the museum, featuring Rep. Meredith Craig. RSVP to jkiko@afphq.org.
