Hummel names Berry to risk management role
Former deputy fire marshal will help clients reduce claims and prevent losses
Hummel announced the addition of Mike Berry to its team.
Berry joins Hummel after a 25-year career with the Wooster Division of Fire, where he served as a firefighter/paramedic and spent 15 years as deputy fire marshal. In that role, he led fire investigations, conducted complex property and life safety inspections, evaluated hazardous conditions and worked closely with businesses to reduce risk exposures and prevent losses. His background offers Hummel clients a practical, real-world perspective on identifying risks before they result in claims.
At Hummel, Berry will work directly with clients to evaluate and reduce their overall risk profile. His responsibilities include in-depth property inspections such as sprinkler grading, construction analysis, drone-based roof inspections, thermal imaging assessments and evaluations of hazardous material storage. He will also assess life safety protocols, assist with the development and implementation of safety handbooks, policies and procedures, and provide targeted safety training for employees.
All of Berry’s work is focused on one goal: helping clients prevent losses, reduce claims and ultimately lower insurance costs through proactive risk management strategies.
Berry holds a degree in public safety from Stark State College and remains active in professional education and training. He serves as an adjunct instructor for fire investigator courses at Cuyahoga Community College. In addition, he serves as a trustee with the Fire Data Exchange Association in Stark County and owns and operates a CPR and first aid training business.
“Hummel is committed to helping our clients understand and reduce their risk exposure,” said Principal and Chief Growth Officer Matt Yost. “Mike’s background in fire prevention, inspection, investigation and safety training adds tremendous value to our team and gives our clients access to expertise that can make a measurable difference.”
