America 250 logo adds patriotic touch to Smithville High fields
Painted design connects baseball and softball season with village commemoration efforts
Baseball and softball season in Smithville has taken on an added patriotic backdrop this spring with an America 250 logo painted behind home plate at the Smithville High School baseball and softball fields, linking the team’s season to the village’s broader commemorative activities planned throughout the summer.
The painted logo, prominently displayed on the grass near home plate, has become part of the atmosphere surrounding Smithies baseball and softball games this spring and reflects the communitywide focus on America 250 activities across Wayne County.
Earlier this year, Smithville hosted a ceremonial tree planting near the Veterans Memorial at Smithville Community Park as part of the national anniversary observance. The event included participation from local officials, students and residents, with Green Elementary School second-grade students performing patriotic songs during the ceremony.
“It’s encouraging to see America 250 become part of community spaces across Smithville, including places where families and students gather throughout the school year,” said Wayne County Commissioner Matt Martin about the logo.
Community organizers have said the ongoing America 250 efforts are intended to highlight local history, civic involvement and the role small communities continue to play in preserving traditions and encouraging public participation during the nation’s semiquincentennial year.
