The United Way of Tuscarawas County will celebrate Earth Day with its annual “Day of Caring” Wednesday, April 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event offers volunteers from area businesses and organizations the opportunity to spend a morning providing spring cleanup services for historical attractions and nonprofits throughout Tuscarawas County.
This year’s “Day of Caring” will include projects at Blessings in a Backpack, the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum, the Dover Public Library, the Norma Johnson Center, the Reeves Museum, the Salvation Army, Schoenbrunn Village, Zoar Gardens and more. Tasks will vary by site but may include mulching, planting flowers, weeding, raking, cleaning, sweeping, minor repairs, painting and other assigned duties.
The annual “Day of Caring” serves as a team-building activity for management teams and employees, and any local company or organization that would like to form a volunteer team is encouraged to participate. The United Way is still seeking volunteer groups for this year’s event. Businesses interested in getting involved should email Hannah Hartman at manager@tuscunitedway.org or call the United Way of Tuscarawas County at 330-343-7772 by Wednesday, April 1, to be included.
The United Way of Tuscarawas County said it is grateful for event sponsorship from First National Bank of Dennison, whose support allows each participant to receive a free T-shirt to wear during the event.
“This is such a great event that enables us to give back to the community in which we live and work,” said Shannon Sanders, client services and marketing officer at First National Bank of Dennison. “Working together to make our community a better place is an honor, and we are thankful to United Way for organizing ‘Day of Caring’ every year.”
Last year’s “Day of Caring” involved about 150 volunteers from 15 area businesses and organizations, including Advocates for Success, Andreas Furniture, Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio, Commercial & Savings Bank, Cooper Standard Industrial & Specialty Group, Dover Chemical, DoverPhila Federal Credit Union, First Federal Community Bank, First National Bank of Dennison, Park National Bank, Prettl, Staley Technologies, Trinity Health System Twin City Medical Center, TuscBDD and Unified Bank.
“The goal of the ‘Day of Caring’ is simply to assist multiple local nonprofits with a morning of extra helping hands willing to do whatever needs to be done,” said Hannah Hartman, community engagement and events manager for the United Way of Tuscarawas County. “It’s an opportunity for us to show the community what our organization is about — United is the way we support Tuscarawas County’s nonprofit organizations, and the ‘Day of Caring’ is a perfect example of this.”
