Dover Public Library features Thomas Gardner wood carvings
His work takes visitors on a visual journey to Shogun-era Japan, to the bottom of the ocean and beyond
The Dover Public Library will feature the wood carvings of Thomas Gardner through the month of March in its lobby display case.
Gardner’s carvings are created in a style known as intarsia, in which various shapes, sizes and species of colored wood are fitted together to create a mosaic-like picture with the illusion of depth. His work takes visitors on a visual journey to Shogun-era Japan, to the bottom of the ocean and beyond.
“These are some truly amazing works,” said Todd Trimble, display case curator for the Dover Public Library. “I am glad that Mr. Gardner is sharing them with the public.”
The Dover Public Library is located at 525 N. Walnut St., across from Dover High School. For more information, call 330-343-6123 or visit doverlibrary.org.
