Medina Sunrise Rotary held a recent meeting at the Medina County Career Center, where members learned about skilled trade programs within the Ken Cleveland Construction Academy and the school’s community partnerships that prepare students for in-demand careers.

Career Services Coordinator Danielle McMaster welcomed the group with an overview of the career center’s 50 years of service and introduced the speakers.

Adam Hyre, construction electricity instructor, was joined by student Jacob, who shared his experience as a senior in the program and his plans to serve in the U.S. Coast Guard.

Todd Mason, a construction trades instructor, attended with junior Preston, who spoke about the opportunities the program provides students.

Mike Foore, HVAC instructor, highlighted the hands-on training students receive in heating and cooling systems and the apprenticeships available with partner companies in Northeast Ohio.

Patrick Shaughnessy, counselor and school-military liaison, discussed student involvement in the Wreaths Across America program at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery and the school’s Purple Star Award designation, which recognizes schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to students and families connected to military service.

Rotary members encouraged local employers seeking interns, apprentices or entry-level employees to consider connecting with career center students.

The club thanked Superintendent Steve Chrisman and the Medina County Career Center for hosting the meeting and for their continued work supporting students and strengthening the community.
