Winter art exhibits brighten library galleries with local talent and community favorites

MCDL to feature plein air works, artist showcases, student creations and the annual Aquarius Exhibition

The "Interpretations" exhibit, on display at the Medina Library’s B. Smith Gallery through Dec. 7, features plein air paintings exploring how artists’ emotional connections to landscapes shape their views.

As winter weather sets in, several local library branches will showcase new art exhibitions designed to brighten the season, including the popular Aquarius Exhibition, a longtime community favorite.

At the Medina Library’s B. Smith Gallery on the third floor, the season opens with Interpretations, on display through Dec. 7. The exhibit features work from the Cuyahoga Valley Area Plein Air Painters, who explore how emotional connection to landscapes shapes artistic interpretation.

Beginning Dec. 13, the gallery will host Artists Sharing the Gift of Art, a collection of work from professional artists inspired by their own creative vision and love of art. A reception is scheduled for Dec. 13 from noon to 4 p.m. and Dec. 14 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. The exhibit runs through Jan. 12.

The 22nd Annual Aquarius Exhibition, the most popular show of the year, returns Jan. 30 to March 1. The exhibit features artwork from members of the Medina County Art League, and visitors may cast a vote for the People’s Choice Award. A reception will be held Jan. 31 from 1 to 3 p.m.

At the Buckeye Library, the Buckeye Student Art Show will run Feb. 9-20, highlighting the creative talents of students from Buckeye Local Schools.

Gallery spaces are also available at the Brunswick, Highland and Lodi branch libraries. Information about future shows and hosting opportunities can be found at mcdl.info/Art.
