Main Street Medina receives national accreditation
Accreditation recognizes Medina's downtown revitalization and community partnerships
Heritage Ohio and the Ohio Main Street Program have announced the national accreditation of Main Street Medina. The recognition is awarded through the Ohio Main Street Program, which serves as the coordinating agency in Ohio for Main Street America. Medina became a member of the Ohio Main Street Program in 2007.
During a full-day evaluation visit, Main Street Medina demonstrated evidence of a strong, effective program focused on achieving measurable outcomes in downtown revitalization. To qualify for accreditation status, communities must meet national standards that include building grassroots-driven revitalization efforts, fostering strong public-private partnerships, supporting economic opportunity for small businesses and entrepreneurs, and preserving historic places, spaces and cultural assets.
The designation reflects the dedication and work of Main Street Medina’s board, staff and volunteers.
Executive Director George Sam said, “Thank you to our partners, members, sponsors and volunteers for a successful 2025. We hope that 2026 brings even more vibrancy to Medina’s Historic and South Town districts. Businesses and residents: You can be a part of the movement by becoming a member, volunteer or sponsor. We can’t do it without you.”
Mayor Jim Shields added, “The City of Medina congratulates and celebrates Main Street’s accreditation. The city is very grateful for the continued efforts of Main Street Medina. Main Street Medina is a valuable partner for the city and helps make Medina, and particularly our historic downtown, so special for our residents and visitors.”
Heritage Ohio is the state’s official historic preservation and Main Street organization. Since 1998, it has contracted with the National Main Street Center as Ohio’s state coordinating agency for the Main Street Program. For more information, visit HeritageOhio.org.
