Medina museums open with medical history exhibit

Both museums welcome visitors March 8 with new displays and tours.

The Medina County Historical Society will kick off its 2026 open house season Sunday, March 8, with a new format and a new exhibit.

By popular request, both of the society’s museums will now be open on the same day during monthly open houses. Visitors may tour the John Smart House at 206 N. Elmwood Ave. and the McDowell-Phillips House Museum at 205 S. Prospect St. from 1–4 p.m.

Open houses will continue on the second Sunday of each month throughout the season.

A highlight of the March opening is a new exhibit at the John Smart House titled “The History of Medicine in Medina County,” featuring medical tools, a historic timeline and video interviews.

Admission to the John Smart House is by a suggested $5 donation.

Admission to the McDowell-Phillips House Museum is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $7 for youth ages 7–17 and free for children younger than 7. Tours begin every 20 minutes starting at 1 p.m.
