Medina's Miller wins 110-pound wrestling title

Medina’s Kolsen Miller swept through four rounds to win the 110-pound championship at the Ohio Youth Wrestling Association state tournament Feb. 15 at GlenOak High School in Canton.
Miller recorded two pins and two decisions, including an 8-3 victory over Chansen Hart of West Holmes in the championship bout.
Andrew Reyes advanced to the 132-pound final, where he fell 12-2 to top seed Case Zarnstoff of Ashland. Reyes had a pin, a major decision and a decision on his way to the final.
The Bees finished third among 63 teams and clubs with 139 points. Wadsworth won the team title with 258 points, followed by Louisville with 185.
Highland’s Black squad placed fifth with 115.5 points. Cloverleaf finished 20th with 53.5 points, and Highland’s Green squad scored four points to place 49th.
For Medina, Oliver Garrett (52 pounds) dropped his first-round match, then went 5-0 in the consolation bracket to finish third. Benjamin McKenzie (73) reached the semifinals and placed third. Brecken Yetzer (70) placed fourth after winning three consolation matches.
Grayson Kearney (150), Ajavion McFolley (175) and Jaxson Behun (205) each won four of six matches to finish fifth. Scottie Lentini (100) advanced to the semifinals and placed sixth.
Other Medina qualifiers included Talon Gordon (76), who won two matches, and Justin Smith (120), who won once.
For Highland Black, Easton Berger won the 67-pound title, earning the Hornets’ lone championship. Berger pinned all four opponents, including a 1:11 fall over Marcus Watson of Beaver Local in the final. Watson had earlier defeated top seed Dawson Flott of Marlington. Berger was seeded second.
Garrett Nichlos (76) recorded three pins in 2:23 before falling to top seed Austyn Wilson of Tuslaw in the final. Hudson Fishbach (64) went 4-1 to finish third. Bryce Villers (73) went 4-2 to place fourth. Ryan Brand (150) was a semifinalist and finished fourth after going 3-2 in placement matches. Jimmy Peters (56) went 3-3 to place sixth, and Elliot Zapior (79) reached the semifinals before finishing 2-3 and placing sixth.
Also competing for Highland Black were Benson Boyart (52), who won one match; Brantley Cheatham (60); Jameson Bailey (82); and Lukas Yamaletdzinau (86).
Nathan Cahill went 2-2 for Highland Green.
Cloverleaf was led by Bryson Wheeland (82), who went 5-1 to finish third after a second-round loss. Graham Bammerlin (95) was a semifinalist and placed third at 3-3. Wyatt Montgomery went 3-3 and placed fifth. Austin Sulzener (52) went 2-2, while Lincoln MacClarren (49) and Gauge Wellman (79) each went 1-2. Other Cloverleaf qualifiers included Bryce Haigh (60), Liam Beljin (67) and Bryson Gray (90).
The OYWA is comprised primarily of teams and clubs from northeast Ohio, with four districts feeding into the state tournament. Medina, Highland and Cloverleaf compete in the Copley Sectional and Barberton District.
