Medina County Historical Society honored with state history award
The Medina County Historical Society has received statewide recognition for its work preserving and sharing local history. The Ohio Local History Alliance (OLHA) has selected the society’s Medina County Revolutionary War Veteran and Family Project for an Outstanding Achievement Award in the category of Media and Publications.
The project, led by MCHS board chairman Brian Feron with sponsorship support from Commissioner Steve Hambley, documents Revolutionary War veterans and their families who settled in Medina County. It aims to preserve their stories and ensure future generations understand the sacrifices and legacies of the nation’s earliest patriots.
“We are thrilled to receive this recognition from OLHA,” Feron said. “This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our volunteers and community partners who helped bring this project to life.”
The OLHA, a statewide organization dedicated to supporting local history professionals and institutions, presents the awards annually to highlight exceptional projects and programs that preserve and interpret Ohio history .
The award will be formally announced Sept. 11 during the OLHA business meeting at the American Association for State and Local History Conference. It will also be featured in the November/December issue of The Local Historian newsletter. Feron will be presented with the award certificate at the OLHA Region 3 meeting, scheduled for spring 2026.
The Medina County Historical Society, founded in 1922, preserves and interprets the history of Medina County through its museum, archival collections, public programs and events. Its mission is to connect residents and visitors with the community’s past while fostering pride and understanding of local heritage.
