Readers can meet bestselling authors and explore diverse genres this fall as Medina County District Library welcomes a lineup of special guests and writing programs.

Suspense author Lisa Unger will appear Sept. 25 at 6:30 p.m. at the Medina Library. Unger, a New York Times and internationally bestselling author of 22 novels, is regarded as a master of suspense and in 2019 earned two Edgar Award nominations, an honor shared by only a few authors. She currently serves as co-president of the International Thriller Writers organization. A book discussion of her latest novel, Close Your Eyes and Count to 10, will also take place earlier that day at 3 p.m. at the Brunswick Library. Both events will feature book sales and signings.

On Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m., also at the Medina Library, author Mary Nihn will speak about her globally bestselling Ninja Life Hacks series. Known for inspiring parents and educators, Nihn incorporates resilience-building strategies and emotional intelligence tools into her stories. Her presentation will offer practical ways to help young learners manage emotions, make smart choices and develop a growth mindset. The interactive program also supports social-emotional learning goals for educators, who can receive continuing education credit certificates. A book sale and signing will follow.

Historical fiction author Brianna Labuskes will round out the season with a virtual appearance on Zoom Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. Labuskes is the author of The Boxcar Librarian, a Depression-era novel inspired by true events about a woman’s quest to uncover the mystery of a rural Montana library on a converted mining train. A former journalist, Labuskes has written more than a dozen books in the historical fiction and thriller genres.

Alongside these author visits, MCDL will host programs designed for aspiring writers. The Writers Series Plot Twist Critique Group meets via Zoom on Sept. 18, Oct. 16 and Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. Published local author Kris Renee will lead discussions on the craft of writing, provide feedback and create a supportive space for participants to share projects and ideas.

The season also includes the Medina Book Fest on Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Medina Library. The event features workshops on writing and marketing, tips on self-publishing, and a chance to meet with a literary agent to polish query letters. Visitors can also enjoy a book swap, take photos at a book-themed wall and browse works for sale by local authors.
