West Holmes' Vaughn posts strong record during two-month All-Star wrestling tour
Seventh-grader posts 16-9 record while competing across nine states and Canada.
West Holmes seventh-grader Jackson Vaughn, the eldest child of Knights high school varsity wrestling coach Scott Vaughn, spent the majority of his summer wrestling, traveling and sightseeing the western United States as a member of the 2025 Ohio All-Star wrestling team.
Vaughn, one of 22 wrestlers on the team, posted a 16-9 mark during the two-month trip, which saw the team compete in nine states and in British Columbia, Canada. The team departed Columbus June 12 and returned Aug. 7.
“This is a trip that Bart Friedenberg (Ohio AAU wrestling chairman) has run for 43 years now,” said coach Vaughn. “Jackson had a blast getting to know his teammates and seeing things he may never get to see again. They traveled to Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Washington, Vancouver in Canada, Oregon, Nevada, California, Arizona and Colorado.”
The Ohio All-Star Team had a perfect 13-0 record in dual meets, grabbed runner-up team honors at the California State Games and posted a 443-135 overall dual match mark during the trip.
“There has been some incredible talent on the team through the years, and this team was no different,” said coach Vaughn, who had the privilege to coach his son and the team July 8-21.
Jackson Vaughn became the sixth West Holmes-affiliated wrestler to be a member of the Ohio All-Star Team, joining former Knights assistant wrestling coach Greg Woods, coach Vaughn, Clint Sponseller, Colt Sponseller and Cael Woods.
