West Holmes boys basketball edges Newcomerstown as Knights post mixed results across winter sports

The West Holmes boys basketball team defeated Newcomerstown 54-51 in nonleague play Jan. 13.

Cooper Maltarich (14 points), Nate Sprang (12), Preston Troyer (seven) and Keston McKinney (seven) paced WH.

Ashland picked up a 77-62 win over West Holmes in Ohio Cardinal Conference action Jan. 9.

Sprang (23 points), McKinney (12) and Troyer (10) led the Knights.

Girls basketball

West Holmes picked up a 46-30 victory over Lexington in an OCC battle Jan. 12.

Zalina Proper (15 points, four steals), Cara McMillen (13 points, four rebounds), Lilli Brown (10 points, three steals), Rorie Wilcox (eight rebounds) and Mati Fair (three steals) led the Knights.

Madison downed West Holmes 39-33 in an OCC clash Jan. 10.

Proper (11 points, three steals), McMillen (eight points, three steals), Fair (four rebounds), Wilcox (seven rebounds) and Gabby Fowler (five rebounds) paced WH.

New Philadelphia defeated West Holmes 53-41 in OCC play Jan. 7.

McMillen (14 points), Proper (10 points), Briar Cline (eight points, nine rebounds, three assists) and Wilcox (seven points) led the Knights.

Girls bowling

West Holmes defeated Ashland 1,762-1,620 in an OCC clash Jan. 8.

Aubree Young (213-138-351) and Madison Brenneman (148-163-311) led the Knights.

West Holmes picked up a 1,649-1,387 win over Mansfield Senior in an OCC battle Jan. 7.

Boys bowling

Ashland picked up a 2,848-2,477 win over West Holmes in OCC play Jan. 8.

Cameron Young (222-240-462), Sean Klutz (181-215-396) and Ryan Rowland (187-181-368) led the Knights.

Mansfield Senior defeated West Holmes 2,310-2,125 in OCC action Jan. 7.

Clayton Beckett (170-224-394) and Rowland (193-178-371) paced WH.

West Holmes downed Dover 2,111-2,019 in an OCC clash Jan. 6.

Rowland (187-210-397) and Young (190-206-396) led the Knights.

Junior varsity boys basketball

West Holmes beat Newcomerstown 53-28 on Jan. 13.

Jaden Baker (14 points), Kolton Taggart (10), Hudson Flanders (nine) and Eb Al-Sultan (seven) led WH.

Ashland defeated West Holmes 67-41 on Jan. 9.

Cole Troyer (eight points) and Baker (seven) paced the Knights.

Junior varsity girls basketball

Tusky Valley beat West Holmes 28-20 on Jan. 12.

Chelsie Cooper (eight points, five steals, four rebounds), Emma McDonnell (five rebounds), Brinley Malachin (four rebounds, four steals) and Jocelyn Olney (eight rebounds) led WH.

New Philadelphia beat West Holmes 35-20 on Jan. 7.

McDonnell (12 points), Cooper (seven steals), Mattie Shankel (four rebounds) and Malachin (three steals) paced the Knights.

Freshman girls basketball

Northwest beat West Holmes 44-17 on Jan. 10.
