West Holmes Board of Education approves Weaver as head golf coach

Board also adopts 2026-27 calendar, accepts donations and approves property and personnel actions

The West Holmes Board of Education met Dec. 15 at West Holmes High School and approved a range of financial, calendar, property and personnel items while also receiving updates on academics and district operations.

The board approved minutes from its Nov. 10 meeting and accepted several donations including a monetary gift from Russell Cellular of Millersburg to Nashville Elementary, an anonymous $2,000 donation to support students in the district with learning issues and a $10,000 grant from the Holmes County Foundation to support the district’s Facility Dog Initiative.

Treasurer reports were approved for the month ending Nov. 30, including the month-end reconciliation and investments, a financial report by fund of expenditures and unencumbered balances, and the financial summary for the period.

During the superintendent’s report, board members heard committee updates, an FFA update, a review of the 2026-27 high school course selection guide and a K-5 building update.

In new business the board approved the 2026-27 school year calendar and a memorandum of understanding with Holmes County Juvenile Court for the School-Court Youth Development Partnership, which defines the role of a youth support specialist.

The board also authorized the board president and treasurer to sign a purchase agreement and easement to sell a 0.35-acre parcel of district-owned property, identified as Holmes County Auditor’s parcel No. 0960007000, to the Killbuck Cemetery Association for $5,000, as permitted under Ohio law for properties valued under $10,000. In addition, the board approved a resolution to donate the district’s old softball scoreboard to the Athletic Boosters.

Personnel actions approved by the board included retirements of guidance counselor Dawne O’Donnell, effective June 11, 2026; teacher Gerrilu Hughes, effective May 31, 2026; and teacher Suzanne Goudy, effective July 31, 2026. Resignations were accepted from bus driver Trae Schonauer, effective Nov. 28, 2025, and custodian Paul Lambert, effective Dec. 5, 2025.

The board approved several substitutes including Brenna Myers as a nondegree teacher and teacher aide and Molly Snyder, Allie McMillen, Kaye Parsons, Sarah Irwin and Emilee Estill as teachers. Thad Weaver was approved as head golf coach. Amber Parrot was hired as a bus driver, effective Dec. 2, and Jennifer Eppley was approved for transfer from cook to custodian, effective Dec. 15.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 12 at West Holmes High School.
