Millersburg Village Council discusses upcoming projects

Council reviews zoning changes, traffic system updates and community projects in February meeting.

Millersburg Village Council discussed updates on the Downtown Sidewalk Project, smart traffic light monitoring, Airport Park improvements, utility billing changes and other village projects during its Feb. 23 meeting.

Millersburg Village Council met Feb. 23 and discussed the following:

—Planning and zoning will meet March 4 to review a preliminary design for a proposed lot split and rezoning of 1.24 acres at 898 E. Jackson Extension.

—A merchant meeting was held Feb. 12 at American Hall. There was a good discussion and ideas from attendees pertaining to the Downtown Sidewalk Project phase one. The village has passed the comments along to Spicer. The village also recently met with MJK Electrical Engineering to finalize the underground electrical plans for the project. The village is looking at a late spring bid date for the project.

—The poles, brackets and fixtures for the Airport Park lighting were received. The village is waiting for the weather and ground conditions to change for installation.

—Village Administrator Nate Troyer has had several discussions with Pathmaster concerning the smart traffic light system. Pathmaster is monitoring and collecting data now that everything is running and will continue to do so for several more weeks. The next step in the process would be the incorporation of the Currux Adaptive Module for signal timing optimization. This is a one-time fee of $12,000 per intersection. Council asked Troyer to have Pathmaster come in and give it more specific details about the Adaptive Module.

—No update on the phone system in the village offices. The village is waiting for fiber installation.

—Troyer met with Jenna Brumme about a potential Eagle Scout project at the Deer Run Amphitheater. She has talked with Brenna Barbey, and they came up with the idea to construct a pavilion and roof structure for the stage area of the amphitheater.

—Cottonwood Shanty will host a coffee truck March 14 to celebrate its anniversary.

—Tom Abraham, county commissioner candidate, came to talk with council about his campaign ideas and why he is running for commissioner.

—Shirley Gerber thanked council for procuring funding for the Wooster Road Waterline Project. She also expressed her appreciation for the work council does.

—Council member Andy Zollars would like to see some progress on the Chevron and logos for the village vehicles. He brought some possible logos and Chevron ideas to council. Troyer and Assistant Administrator Chad Cline will get some quotes from local companies for council.

—Some residents have asked for a bench or picnic table near the new playground equipment at Airport Park. Council will work on getting that.

—Per Millersburg Ordinance 949.07, trash cans can be put by the road no earlier than noon the day before trash pickup and must be put away by 6 p.m. on pickup day. Council has been seeing a lot of residents leaving their cans out all week.

—With the March billing of the water bills, residents will no longer get a postcard in the mail. It will be a bill in a regular envelope. Residents will continue to get a paper bill unless they enroll in paperless billing. An online account can be created at any time, as well as autopay.
