At the May 2020 regularly scheduled board meeting for the Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities, members discussed the 2019 TuscBDD annual community report.

Every year TuscBDD reports to the board in regards to progress made on the current strategic plan.

“In 2019 we focused a great deal on relationship building and extra mile customer service,” said Kerri Silverthorn, TuscBDD’s community relations/special projects director. “Going the extra mile with a person that we serve is essentially going above and beyond a position description. It is completing the assignments in your position description and then taking it several steps further. This type of customer service is a cultural shift. We want this type of customer service and support for the people that we serve and their families, the community, and our employees.”

In an effort to encourage this type of customer service and workplace culture, TuscBDD developed an innovation committee in 2019 that brainstorms ideas on how to support the people who receive TuscBDD services, as well TuscBDD employees.

“We want to be a positive and reliable resource for all,” Silverthorn said.

The customer-service goal was developed at the agency’s leadership retreat earlier in the year. The entire report can be found at www.bit.ly/2019TuscBDDreport.

TuscBDD Extra Mile Service Award recipients include Kayla McKnight, service and support administrator; Keith Stoneman, information technology coordinator; Lisa Schilling, administrative assistant business office; and Joyce Robson, Starlight School secretary.

Additional board discussion/action items

The board approved the agreement for janitorial services between the TuscBDD and Advocates For Success LLC per the terms and conditions of the agreement as submitted and approved by assistant prosecuting attorney Robert Stephenson II.

The board approved the 2020-21 coursework reimbursement allocation for TuscBDD employees.

Mid-East Ohio Regional Council completed an employee engagement survey for TuscBDD, and on 35 of the 40 questions, TuscBDD received higher scores than the benchmark data. The benchmark data is the average scores from thousands of other organizations.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 22 at 5:30 p.m. The board will conduct a virtual meeting via Zoom video/phone conference during the COVID-19 state of emergency.

The public will be granted access to the meeting via phone. Agendas, Zoom board meeting links and minutes can be found online at www.bit.ly/tuscbddboardmeeting.
