Sugarcreek council committees to stay the same

Josh Hamsher was named Sugarcreek Council president pro tempore during the Jan. 6 meeting.

Mayor Walt Wilson said the village committees will stay the same as in 2024. Hamsher will chair the finance, personnel and audit committee; Sam Beachy will chair safety; Josh Jarvis will chair communications, public relations and refuse; Matt Miller will chair streets, water and sewer; Nate Wagler will chair lands, buildings, sidewalks and insurance; and Mick Fanning will chair economic development, parks and recreation.

“The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency inspected the water towers in October. Two of the water towers, one at the ball field and the other near McDonald’s, need relined and painted. The employees have made small corrections,” Wilson said.

Council, at Wilson’s recommendation, hired Dixon Engineering and Inspection Services of Medina at a cost of $8,800 to get the information to WE Quicksall Associates to move forward with the project.

Council also did the following:

—Authorized Wilson to sign an agreement with the Ohio Department of Transportation for paving Ohio 39 through the village in 2026.

—Heard the Main Street project for curbing and paving will begin June 1.

—Learned the Zurich Street project will be done in phases to make repairs.

—Heard on Jan. 3 there was a signal problem at the traffic light at Ohio 93 and 39. Village Administrator Kevin Kaser said the traffic light repairs were made later the same day.

—Lauded the street department for the good job during the recent snowfall.

—Passed an ordinance, as an emergency, for the 2025 permanent appropriations of $15,695,306.

—Passed, as an emergency, an ordinance for 2025 fund level permanent appropriations to be sent to the county auditor.

The next meeting will be held Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. at 410 Broadway in Sugarcreek. A safety committee meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. The meeting was changed from Jan. 20 due to the national holiday. All meetings are open to the public.
