Substitute levy renewal will appear on autumn ballot

During the Jan. 7 board meeting, Fairless Superintendent Mike Hearn reported on the 10-year substitute levy renewal that will appear on the Nov. 4, 2025 ballot and supports the general fund.

The levy generates about $1.8 million annually and is 12% of the district’s overall budget. The levy is essential in maintaining the day-to-day operations of the school. Passage of the substitute renewal levy will not increase property taxes. The levy appeared on the ballot in 2024 and was defeated by voters.

“One message has been clear. We must work together to ensure our community has accurate and comprehensive information about the levy’s importance and the direct impact it has on our students, staff and school,” Hearn said.

Hearn and the board have been holding meetings to explain the substitute renewal levy and how vital it is for the district. Hearn said these discussions have been invaluable in identifying areas where more outreach and transparency are needed.

“Over the next 11 months while the board continues to focus on maintaining a balanced budget, we will increase efforts to connect with the community, share detailed information and collaborate on a unified path forward,” Hearn said.
