OPL’s Youth Book Club invites grades 4-6 to read

A group of young readers attended Orrville Public Library’s first Youth Book Club meeting in June. They have chosen “The Area 51 Files” by Julie Buxbaum as the book to read before the July meeting. Books will be available at the children’s desk.

The Youth Book Club is for kids in fourth grade through sixth grade. Register and plan to come to the 4 p.m. meeting on Thursday, July 24 to share thoughts about the July book. Registration will begin July 10. Register on the library’s website calendar at www.orrville.lib.oh.us or by calling the children’s department at 330-683-1065.

Brain Freeze Challenge

Students in fifth grade through eighth grade can earn a coupon for a special treat by reading for 20 minutes a day until a total of 300 minutes is reached. Orrville Public Library’s Summer Brain Freeze Challenge will run through Aug. 31.

Pick up a log sheet at the information desk to keep track of your reading progress. Return the log sheet when you complete 300 minutes and draw from the library’s prize jar. All summer entries will be eligible for a chance to win a grand prize. The books you read also count for the Summer Reading Program, the Teen 100 Challenge and the 100 Books Before Graduation program.

Color the Library

There’s still time to be creative and make something for “Color Our World.” Orrville Public Library is asking artists of all ages, using the medium they prefer, to participate in its August Art Show. Use your imagination to create something that the library will then display for others.

Your creation should be appropriate for all ages. Submissions should be dropped off at the information desk by 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 26. The art will be on display throughout the library from Aug. 4-30.

Teen Book Box

Sign-up will begin July 14 for the next Book Box from Orrville Public Library. Those in sixth grade through 12th grade can register every other month to pick up a customized box of reading material. The library also will include some treats and trinkets. Registration concludes July 26.

Registration can be completed through the library’s website calendar or by calling the information desk. Your reserved Book Box will be available for pickup the week of Aug. 4.

Children’s Crafternoon

Registration for Orrville Public Library’s Friday, Aug. 1 Crafternoon event will begin July 18. This month attendees will do oil pastel patterns in reverse.

Crafternoon is held the first Friday of every month for kids in third grade through sixth grade to explore various creative techniques and media. Projects vary each month.

Register by clicking the event on the library’s website calendar or calling the children’s department.

Story Time at the StoryWalk

Kids of all ages and their parents, caregivers and siblings are invited to meet the staff of Orrville Public Library at the StoryWalk on Thursday, July 31 at 10:30 a.m. Attendees will enjoy this month’s book, “On the Nature Trail,” and play Bingo along the way. The Storybook Trail is located east of the dog park, with parking available off Ella Street.

Registration is required for all people attending and will begin Thursday, July 17. Register by clicking the event date in the library’s online calendar or by calling the children’s desk.
