Mixed results for West Holmes sports teams
Knights split on diamond, suffer losses on track
John Glenn eked out a 2-0 victory over West Holmes in nonleague softball action May 4.
Matti Shankel suffered the tough-luck loss in the circle, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits over six innings with two strikeouts and one walk.
Zoe Walter and Payton Hudson both had one hit to lead the offense.
West Holmes rolled to a 14-4 win over Madison in Ohio Cardinal Conference play April 30.
Payson Dial went 3-for-3 with a home run, double and single to lead the Knights. Emma Miller (home run), Gabby Fowler and Zalina Proper all had multi-hit games. Briar Cline hit a grand slam. Fowler earned the win, allowing three runs on five hits over three innings with two walks.
Girls track & field
Lexington picked up a 105-32 victory over West Holmes in an OCC dual May 4.
Mallory Marmet won the shot put and the discus; Iriel Mena won the 800; McKaylin Getchy won the high jump; the 4x400 relay of Katherine Kaster, Mena, Alizah Sigler and Breslyn Brown finished first in a season-best 4:25.68; Sigler finished second in the 400; Kaster finished second in the 800; and Lilli Brown finished third in the high jump.
Dover defeated West Holmes 82-37 in an OCC dual April 28.
The Knights were led by Marmet, who won the shot put with a toss of 33-11 and the discus with a 119-1. Also winning events for WH were Breslyn Brown in the 400, Mena in the 800 and Getchy in the high jump. Second-place finishes were recorded by Kaster in the 200, Mena in the 400 and Sophie Arnold in the 800. Third-place finishes went to Kaster in the 400, Ellie Babbitt in the 1600 and Lilli Brown in the 100 hurdles.
Boys track & field
Lexington rolled to a 112-24 win over West Holmes in an OCC dual May 4.
Maddax Graham won the discus (152-9) and the shot put (46-10); Rhett Chaney won the long jump (20-8); the 4x200 relay of Chaney, Garrett Obrst, Marshall Yoder and Mac Craft finished first; Yoder finished second in the 300 hurdles; the 4x400 relay of Parker Garver, Cole Troyer, Jimmy Wengerd and Yoder finished second in a season-best 3:44.27; Craft finished third in the 200; and Noah Grassbaugh finished third in the high jump.
Dover picked up an 83-45 win over West Holmes in an OCC dual April 28.
West Holmes was led by Graham, who won the shot put with a toss of 52-5 and the discus with a personal-best 168-11. The 4x100 relay team of Chaney, Obrst, Cody Gallion and Craft posted a season-best 45.03. Yoder won the 300 hurdles, while Craft added a win in the 200 and placed second in the 100. Grassbaugh finished second in the high jump; Chet Cooper was second in the shot put; Garver took second in the 400; Owen Mallasch placed second in the 800 and third in the 1600; Wengerd finished second in the 1600; and Troyer placed third in the 800.
