Millersburg sets Oct. 25 for trick or treat, reviews village projects and updates
Council discusses housing assessment, police staffing, playground lighting, and new solicitor appointment during Oct. 13 meeting.

Millersburg Village Council met Monday, Oct. 13 and discussed the following:
—Village-wide trick or treat will be Oct. 25 from 4-6 p.m. Those wishing to participate should have their porch light on during those hours.
—Design and review board and planning and zoning met Oct. 1 and approved the signage request for Millersburg Christian Church.
—Quicksall is in the design phase of the Downtown Sidewalk Project. This project will be bid late winter/early spring.
—New playground equipment was installed the week of Sept. 22. The village is working on a time to meet on-site with Millersburg Electric to look at replacing the light control timer and possibly updating the lighting around the sports court.
—Blake Judson passed his Class I water exam, and Clay Shepler passed his Class I wastewater exam recently. Council congratulated both, who are village employees.
—Village employee Steve McKinney is currently taking the required schooling for his CDL exam through Buckeye Career Center.
—OMEGA recently contacted the village to inform it that it needs to renew the village's appointment to the OneOhio Board and appoint an alternate. Council voted to appoint Village Administrator Nate Troyer to the board and Assistant Administrator Chad Cline as the alternate.
—The village has received a proposal from Envision to complete a housing needs assessment. This assessment will benefit all local governments in the west, as well as the commissioners, in determining what kind of housing is needed in Western Holmes County. Mayor Kelly Hoffee will take the proposal to the commissioners for a discussion.
—Millersburg has completed its financial audit, and the auditor said everything looked great.
—Village resident Dave Schrock urged council to put more people on the Tree City Board. Council unanimously voted to approve Ruth Waltman to sit on the board.
—Village resident Rob Hovis addressed council to express his position regarding the potential establishment of a marijuana dispensary within Millersburg. He urged council to deny approval for such a facility, stating that regardless of how the residents may vote on the issue, it is council’s responsibility to oppose permitting a dispensary in the village.
—Police Chief Matthew Shaner presented his quarterly report to council and recommended Sgt. Dan Baker be removed from probationary status, noting he is performing exceptionally well. Shaner also informed council he had received a resignation from one of the department’s officers and that he is currently working on an audit of the evidence room.
—Council member Andrea Kellogg requested emails be sent to council members regarding administrative matters as they arise. The mayor agreed, noting such emails would be for informational purposes only, as any discussion among council members would constitute an open meeting under the Ohio Open Meetings Act.
—Council voted to hire the law firm of Kick & Gilman as the new solicitor for the Village of Millersburg.
