Garaway wrestling dominates Sandy Valley Sectional
Pirates secure nine titles and advance 10 wrestlers to district tournament
The Garaway wrestling team won the Division III Sandy Valley Sectional Feb. 28.
The Pirates racked up 270.5 points, easily outdistancing second-place Fairless (152).
Garaway had nine wrestlers win titles — Bryce Books at 106 pounds, Lukas Miller at 113, Braylon Books at 144, Michell Tetreault at 150, Alex Hamsher at 157, Colton Domer at 165, Matt Frey at 175, Dillon King at 190 and Thomas Grimm at 215. Heavyweight Bobby Bowers finished fourth.
All 10 advanced to the district tournament.
Boys basketball
Garaway’s season came to an end with a 53-43 overtime loss to Martins Ferry in a Div. V sectional final Feb. 28.
The Pirates were led by Jaxon Garber (10 points) and Lofton Numbers (10), who hit a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and send it to overtime. Tanner Rowe added eight points and Micah Yoder five.
